Keep in mind that a "reflection paper" describing your reactions and analysis to a reading or other experience; In this case, your analysis of the first seven weeks of class. Your assignment is supposed to be reflective, which means that I am not looking for a right or a wrong answer. I want to understand your point of view on how we have advanced through the outcomes outlined in the syllabus in the first seven weeks. Make sure to only pick one SLO (guiding question below) for your reflection. Questions to keep in mind as you write Guiding question 1- Can I identify the nature, prevalence, and consequences of individuals with mental health disorders in the justice systems. Nature means to analyze, dissect, break down, divide a complex whole into its parts. In other words, can you identify based on symptomology mental health disorders in the justice system? Prevalence means the commonness of something. In other words, can you talk about the commonness of specific mental health disorders in the justice system? Guiding question 2- Can I discern the practical and potential approaches towards such individuals. Discern means perceive or recognize (something). In other words, can you recognize practical or potential approaches in dealing with people who have mental health disorders in the justice system? Guiding question 3- Can I communicate with confidence about the impact of mental health illness within the justice system. Confidence comes with knowing what you are talking about. So remember, we have covered six different disorders in the first seven weeks. In each disorder, we talk about how they relate to crime (which initiates entry into the criminal justice system). Criteria for Success In this assignment, you may have some questions that might come up. So here is some tips for a successful, academically sustainable paper. Make sure to read the rubric word for word to see how I will grade the paper. Make sure your reflection clearly identifies the student learning outcome you have selected. Make sure you can support why you feel we have met that outcome. Make sure to support your reasons with specific examples. Cite your textbook, supplemental reading, or films we have covered using CORRECT APA 7th edition format. Make sure your two-page reflection is in APA 7th edition format and style. Besides having a student cover page and the right font, the paper must include in-text citations and a reference page. This also means you want to use correct vocabulary and tone to avoid stigmatizing a disorder. Keep in mind this is a reflective paper, so it is not as formal as a literature review but more formal than a journal entry, so leave out informal language. No contractions, and LIMIT first person "I", "we", "us", etc. If you add an opinionated statement, make sure to cite it. It is also important to note that individuals with mental health disorders are often overrepresented in the justice system, as they may be more likely to be arrested and incarcerated than those without mental health disorders. There are a variety of practical and potential approaches towards individuals with mental health disorders in the justice system. These can include diversion programs, specialized courts, and treatment-based interventions. Diversion programs aim to divert individuals with mental health disorders away from the criminal justice system and into treatment and support services. Specialized courts, such as mental health courts, are designed to provide specialized treatment and support for individuals with mental health disorders who come into contact with the criminal justice system. Treatment-based interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, can help individuals with mental health disorders learn skills and strategies to manage their symptoms and reduce the likelihood of reoffending. Overall, it is important to understand the nature, prevalence, and consequences of individuals with mental health disorders in the justice system in order to develop effective and appropriate approaches to address the needs of this population.
