Impact of COVID in Nursing
Title: Impact of COVID in Nursing
The impact of Covid in nursing: The nursing industry has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. The pandemic has impacted nursing in the ways listed below:
Demand for healthcare services has increased as a result of the unexpected increase in COVID-19 cases, which has led to a lack of healthcare professionals and a high demand for nursing services.
Workplace dangers
Because of their frequent interaction with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are more likely to become infected with the virus.
Stress and burnout
Nurses work long hours under a lot of pressure, which can result in stress, burnout, and mental health issues.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) shortage
Nursing staff and other healthcare professionals frequently struggle to get enough PPE, which increases their risk of contracting the virus.
Education and training program disruptions
The pandemic has affected nursing students' educational and training programs, causing a shortage of new nurses in the profession.
Economic impact
As a result of the pandemic, some nurses have lost their jobs or had their hours curtailed, while others are experiencing severe financial strain as a result of the increasing expenses of PPE and other supplies.
Overall, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant effect on nursing and has brought attention to the crucial relevance of this profession.
Assignment #2 Part 1 Paraphrasing and Quoting
This assignment is an exercise to practice the concepts we discussed in class via PowerPoint.
Attached is an article that discusses the COVID impact on the long-term viability of Medicare. We will discuss this more later in class. Click on the Link to access the article: COVID-19 recession pushed Social Security insolvency up a year - The Virginian-Pilot (pilotonline.com)
Read the article and summarize the information to include the following:
-
Article Summary
The article discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent recession have had an impact on the program's finances and how the Social Security trust funds are on the verge of going bankrupt. The trust funds will run out five years sooner than expected, in 2035, according to the Social Security Administration. Since Social Security is a crucial source of income for millions of Americans, particularly the elderly and persons with disabilities, the article underlines the urgent need for Congress to act to address the program's long-term financial viability.
-
What is the information presented in the article?
The majority of the information in the article is focused on the impending insolvency of the Social Security trust funds as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic's effects and the recession that followed. According to the Social Security Administration's forecast, which is five years sooner than anticipated, the program's trust funds would run dry in 2035. The article emphasizes the urgent need for Congress to take action to address the Social Security program's long-term financial viability because it is a vital source of income for millions of Americans, especially pensioners, and people with disabilities.
- What are the specific factors, described in the article, which are exacerbated by the pandemic, and which could shorten the long-term viability of Medicare?
The COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing recession have had a negative impact on Social Security's finances, which may limit the program's long-term survival, according to the report. The epidemic has made the program's financial problems worse, which will cause the trust funds to run out of money five years sooner than originally anticipated. No particular issues that can reduce Medicare's long-term viability are mentioned in the text.
Assignment # Part 2 APA Citation Style
The Assignment will help to practice and to clarify the proper Intext and reference citations when using the APA style. Below is a short piece that I wrote and a list of the information on my sources.
Now your job is to insert the Intext Citations and to prepare the reference list. The numbers in the parentheses refer to the source of the information.
This Assignment is due no later than 11:59pm (EST) on Sunday, September 12, 2021
See Example on Next page
DISCLAIMER: THE INFORMATION IN THE SHORT PIECE IS NOT SPECIFIC OR MEANT TO PROVIDE A REAL SOURCE OF INFORMATION. THE SHORT PIECE IS FOR ASSIGNMENT PURPOSES ONLY
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE ONLY—NOT YOUR ASSIGNMENT; SEE THE NEXT PAGE FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENT.
Let us pretend that you have the sentence below as part of your paper. You want to include the “in-text citation” and compose the “bibliographic reference”. Look at the parentheses at the end of the sentence. What would you enter here to give credit to the author for his idea? For this example, you will remove the number 1 and place the correct in-text citation between the parentheses using the information found in number one below.
Sentence:
Health care has changed extraordinarily little over the last ten years with any changes having a minimal impact and effecting little substantial change (1)
Bibliographic Reference
1. Michael E. Porter Ph.D./ New England Journal of Medicine. Pages 109-112. Volume, 361, 2009. DOI: 10.1056/NEJMp0904131
So, what you would do is, use the APA citation style:
Health care has changed extraordinarily little over the last ten years with any changes having a minimal impact and effecting little substantial change (Porter, 2009)
And then, prepare the entry for the Reference list on a separate page with the title References (I went to page 198 of the APA Style Manual):
Now go to the actual assignment and do the same thing for the in-text references indicated by the numbers 1-5 of the paragraph. Make sure to prepare a Reference list, ON A SEPARATE PAGE, containing each of the sources and following APA style.
The healthcare system in the United States is a complex interaction between the government, healthcare providers, health insurance agencies, and numerous other organizations that are stakeholders in our healthcare system. The use of these words, health care system, would imply a coordinated process of health care delivery but most planning occurs within the specific organization by the health care manager.
Becker (1) indicates that a strategic plan becomes the way that organizations manage their specific facility. Additionally, the planning provides a clear direction for employees which results in greater productivity and commitment. Other authors (2 and 3) indicate that planning enhances the best outcomes and allows for increased revenues. Flannagan (4) suggests that, in addition, planning provides a clear direction and forms the foundation for evaluating the performance of the staff. Knight (5) would propose that healthcare planning is complicated, as compared to other organizations, by the educational backgrounds, clinical versus business, of the various managers in healthcare resulting in a “dynamic tension”.
